Pin Oak Quercus palustrisAfter years of looking at this tree with skepticism about whether or not it is suited for our urban soils we found two native stands that we feel comfortable growing. Getting the site correct for this tree is critical to its growing success, it needs wet or, at worst, moist soils. The pendulous limbs give this plant a nice shape when grown in the open. The fall color is great, however if the tree is not placed on a good site that color will be muted, not to mention the tree tends to yellow during the summer months.
